An agroecological approach to shape policies and transform food systems
Together with 25+ organisations, the Biodynamic Federation Demeter International participated in a joint policy paper insisting on the importance to take into consideration the agroecological approach when it comes to future food and farming policies.
A new agricultural approach
Using the FAO ‘10 Elements of Agroecology’ and ‘13 Agroecological Principles’ as a framework, the paper introduces how to to develop appropriate instruments and targets for EU policies. It shows that agroecology is more than a simple set of agriculture practices: it embodies a new agricultural approach respectful of our environment, supporting bioversity, empowering farmers and creating added value chains.
A shift in paradigm
The future of EU food and farming policies should take it as a source of inspiration, especially when it comes to reaching the targets of the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity Strategies. It is time that a shift in paradigm takes place for a more sustainable agriculture for the generations to come!
