Tell your Parliamentarians before it’s too late!
The EU is planning to significantly weaken GMO requirements with a new regulation for new GMOs, also referred to as ‘new genomic techniques’.
If the regulation goes through, there would be no more prior safety checks, mandatory traceability, or on-package labelling for new GMOs.
This would mean that GM products could come onto our fields and plates without us knowing about them.
Send an email to your Members of the Parliament asking them to stand for strict regulations for all new GMOs!
What’s at stake?
The European Parliament and the Council of Ministers have reached a preliminary agreement in the final phase of negotiations on the regulation of new GMOs, following the Council’s vote in favour of deregulation on December 3rd.
The provisional agreement omits key traceability and labelling requirements for new GMOs, putting transparency and freedom of choice at risk for breeders, farmers, producers, and consumers to make informed decisions about what they grow and eat.
Let’s not gamble with our food or keep consumers in the dark – on-package labelling must be guaranteed throughout the entire value chain. If these new GM products are as promising as the seed industry claims, then why shouldn’t they be labelled accordingly?
It is time to make our Members of Parliament accountable for their decisions; they must uphold our right to choose and protect GMO-free farming.
Help us to preserve our right to choose!
