Farming for people and the planet 

Over one hundred years ago, farmers recognized that modern industrialised farming methods were degrading natural resources and weakening our connection to the land. This realisation led to the birth of the biodynamic movement — an ecological, ethical, and holistic approach to farming that works in harmony with people and the planet.   

Today, biodynamic farming is practiced in over 65 countries, with more than 7,000 farmers stewarding 255,000 hectares of land. In the last decade alone, biodynamic farming has grown by 57%.  

‘Feel The Joy’ of biodynamic farming 

Our ‘Feel the Joy’ Communication Campaign is shedding a light on what it means to practice biodynamic farming. Each month, biodynamic actors — farmers, producers, breeders, trainers, and advocates — will share their insights through themed videos, each highlighting a key aspect of biodynamic farming. Together, these stories aim to raise awareness and inspire change through ‘feeling the joy’ of biodynamic farming.

Meet the people behind the biodynamic movement — farmers, producers, breeders, trainers, and advocates — all working together to grow a more holistic and regenerative future for people and the planet.  

At the heart of the biodynamic movement are biodynamic farmers. For them, it isn’t just about cultivating the land — it’s about restoring harmony between humans and nature, fostering a renewed engagement for life and the environment.   

Supporting and amplifying these efforts are biodynamic actors, who raise awareness, deepen understanding, and connect the movement across multiple sectors worldwide. From training and certification to production and outreach, these inspiring individuals represent a global community devoted to farming in harmony with nature.  

About the Federation  

The Biodynamic Federation Demeter International supports biodynamic organisations across all continents, coordinating efforts to promote and support the worldwide biodynamic movement, along with the Demeter trademark building up a certification system for biodynamic farming labelled with the Demeter brand.  

The Demeter brand is used by more than 7,000 certified farms in 62 countries worldwide. As the global umbrella organisation for biodynamic farming and the Demeter brand, the Federation collaborates with and provides guidance, resources, and support to 56 member organisations in 41 countries around the world, creating a unified movement nurturing the connection between people and the planet to further develop biodynamic farming.
